Learning the alphabet and letter sounds is an important first step in early literacy. Before children can put letters together to read and write words, they will need to know their letter names and letter sounds. This can be tricky because a lot of letters have more than one sound. Vowels for example have a “long” and a “short” sound. Explaining this explicitly to children when they are first learning their letter sounds can be helpful in avoiding any confusion later.
Our letter sound worksheets allow you to select any letter and will generate a worksheet with images that begin with that letter sound. For vowels or letters that have different rules, a short reminder will be included after the directions. Our letter writing worksheets allow you to select any letter and see how to write that letter (in print or cursive depending on your selections) and then draw and label two pictures that begin with that letter sound. Color the alphabet is a fun worksheet for younger children who are still learning their letters. Allow children to use fun writing tools on this worksheet. There are links at the bottom of this page to some of my favorites. Match uppercase and lowercase letters using the letter recognition worksheets, and fill in the missing alphabet allows you to select how many missing letters you would like on your worksheet based on your child’s needs. All of these alphabet and letter worksheets help teach the alphabet and reinforce letter sounds. There are also links to some fun multisensory tools to help teach letter sounds at the bottom of this page.
