Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 26, 2026
Literacy Worksheets (literacyworksheets.com) is a free worksheet website for teachers and families, run by Literacy Worksheets LLC, a small business based in Wake Forest, NC, USA. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Literacy Worksheets.
This policy explains what information we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. It covers the website, free teacher accounts, the student pages teachers share with their classes, our email list, and the paid ad-free membership. We’ve tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, please contact us (see the end of this page).
At a glance
- Visitors: you can use every worksheet maker without an account. Google shows ads and measures visits using cookies, which is how the site stays free.
- Teacher accounts: we keep your email address, a scrambled (hashed) password, and what you save, such as worksheets, word lists and classes.
- Students: teachers enter only a first name for each student. Student pages show no ads and no analytics, and student information is never used for marketing.
- We don’t sell or rent your personal information.
- Email list: you’re on it only if you sign up and confirm. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Payments: Stripe handles card details for the ad-free membership. We never see your card number.
- Questions or deletion requests: contact us any time (see the end of this page).
Information we collect
When you visit the site. Like most websites, we and our partners automatically receive technical information: the pages you view, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location based on your IP address. Our web host keeps standard server logs. To stop spam, our forms briefly store a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address. Your browser also stores a few settings for us (see Cookies below).
If you create a teacher account. We collect your email address and password. Your password is stored scrambled, so no one can read it, including us. You can add a first name and a profile picture if you want to. We also store what you create: saved worksheets, word lists, classes and assignments. If you share a word list in the public Word List Library, its title and words can be seen by other visitors, so please don’t put personal information in it.
If you use the classroom features. Teachers enter each student’s first name, and can add a display name or a short PIN. Students sign in with their teacher’s class code and their first name. We store students’ answers, scores, and when they were last active. We never ask students for an email address, last name, home address, birthday or photo. See Students and children’s privacy below.
If you join our email list. We collect your email address, which form you signed up on (for example, “holiday page”), and whether you asked to hear about the Intervention Toolkit pilot.
If you buy an ad-free membership. Stripe collects your payment details. We receive your email address, your plan, and whether your subscription is active, but never your full card number.
When you use certain tools. The dictionary lookup sends the word you look up to WordsAPI. The picture search sends your search words to Pixabay. Neither includes your name or email address.
When you contact us. We keep what you send us so we can reply.
How we use information
We use information to:
- run the worksheet makers and keep your account, saved worksheets and word lists working;
- let teachers assign work to their classes and see their students’ results;
- send account emails, such as password resets;
- send our email list, if you signed up and confirmed;
- process ad-free memberships;
- show ads, which pay for the free site;
- see which pages and tools are useful, so we can improve them;
- keep the site secure and stop spam and abuse;
- meet our legal obligations.
We never use student information for advertising, marketing or building profiles.
Advertising and analytics
Ads. Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can turn off personalized ads in Google’s My Ad Center. You can also opt out of personalized ads from many other companies at aboutads.info/choices and optout.networkadvertising.org. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google asks for your consent before ads are personalized.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and tools people use, such as how often worksheets are printed or saved. Google Analytics uses cookies and receives your IP address, which Google uses to estimate your location. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Where there are no ads or analytics. Student pages have no ads and no Google Analytics. Ad-free members see no ads.
Affiliate links. Some pages link to classroom supplies on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. If you follow one of these links, Amazon may use cookies under its own privacy notice.
Students and children’s privacy
Literacy Worksheets is made for teachers and parents. Children use only the student pages their teacher sets up.
What we collect about students. Only what a teacher enters and what the student does in an assignment: a first name, an optional display name, an optional PIN, the student’s answers and scores, and when they were last active. Students do not create accounts with an email address or password.
How it is protected. Student pages show no ads, load no Google Analytics, and carry no email sign-up forms. We do not sell student information, use it for advertising or marketing, or build profiles from it. We use it only to provide the classroom features to the teacher and school.
Consent for children under 13. When a teacher uses the classroom features with their students, we rely on the teacher and school to authorize the collection of this limited information for school use, in place of parents. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) allows schools to give this permission when the information is used only for school purposes. Teachers, please follow your school’s policies and get any permission your school requires before adding students.
Schools and FERPA. Student work and scores stay under the teacher’s and school’s control. We use them only to provide the service, and we share them only with the service providers that run the site (such as our web host) or when the law requires it.
Deleting student information. Teachers can delete students or whole classes at any time; deleting a class removes its student list. A parent who wants to review or delete their child’s information can ask the teacher or contact us. We’ll check with the teacher or school before making changes.
Teacher accounts and our email list are for adults. If we learn that a child under 13 has made a teacher account or joined the list, we will delete it.
Our email list
You join our email list only if you sign up on one of our forms, or tick the box when you create an account, and then click the link in our confirmation email. If you don’t confirm, you won’t get our emails.
- What we send: free holiday packs, new seasonal worksheets, teaching ideas, and occasional news about our own products, such as the ad-free membership, printable packs and the Intervention Toolkit. We usually send a few emails a month.
- Who sends it: our email provider, Brevo, stores the list and sends the emails for us (Brevo’s privacy policy). Brevo may tell us whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, which helps us send more of what’s useful.
- The pilot box: if you tick “Tell me about the Intervention Toolkit pilot”, we’ll also email you about that pilot.
- Leaving: every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can contact us. We keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don’t email you again.
Account emails, such as password resets, are sent through Brevo too. You get those whether or not you’re on the list.
Payments
Ad-free memberships are paid through Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe’s secure checkout page, and they go straight to Stripe, not to us (Stripe’s privacy policy). Stripe tells us your email address, your plan and whether your subscription is active, so we can turn off ads on your account. You can update your card or cancel any time from your account page, which opens Stripe’s billing page.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run the site, and only what each one needs:
| Service | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Bluehost | Hosts the website and its database | Everything stored on the site |
| Ads (AdSense), visit statistics (Analytics), some site code files | Cookie and device data, IP address, pages viewed; not student pages | |
| Brevo | Sends account emails and our email list | Email address, sign-up form, email activity |
| Stripe | Processes ad-free membership payments | Payment details, email address |
| WordsAPI | Dictionary lookups | The word looked up |
| Pixabay | Picture search for worksheets | The search words |
| jsDelivr, cdnjs (Cloudflare), Bootstrap CDN | Deliver some of the site’s code files | IP address and browser details, as any website does |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety or rights of our users or others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business. In a sale, this policy would continue to apply to the information we already hold.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. We use these:
| What | Set by | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign-in cookies | Us | Keep you signed in to your teacher account | Up to 14 days |
| Session cookie | Us | Keep students signed in, and run some site features | Until you close the browser |
lw_ga | Us | Pass a finished action, such as a save or sign-up, to Google Analytics | About 30 minutes |
Analytics cookies (_ga) | Count visits and how the site is used | Up to 2 years | |
| Advertising cookies | Google and its ad partners | Show and measure ads, limit repeats, and personalize ads where allowed | Up to 13 months |
| Browser storage | Us | Remember choices on your device: whether you closed a sign-up box, how many times you printed this week (for the ad-free offer), and an unsaved worksheet while you sign in | Until you clear it |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block our own cookies, signing in won’t work. Many browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal; there is no agreed standard for it, so this site doesn’t respond to it. To limit ads, use the opt-outs under Advertising and analytics.
Your choices and rights
- See or correct your information: sign in and open your account page, or contact us.
- Delete your account: contact us from the email address on the account. We’ll delete your account and what you saved within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as payment records.
- Leave the email list: use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Limit ads and analytics: use the opt-out links under Advertising and analytics, or your browser’s cookie settings.
Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland. We use your information to provide the service you asked for, with your consent (for example, the email list and personalized ads), or for our legitimate interest in running and protecting a free website. You can ask to access, correct, delete or move your information, or object to or limit how we use it. You can withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Our site and service providers are mostly in the United States, so your information is processed there.
Visitors in US states with privacy laws. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Contact us to use these rights. We’ll respond within 45 days, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.
How long we keep information
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Teacher account and saved work | Until you delete it or ask us to; then within 30 days |
| Student information | Until the teacher deletes the student or class; when we delete a teacher’s account, we delete their classes and student lists too |
| Email list | Until you unsubscribe (we keep a note of the unsubscribe so we don’t email you again) |
| Payment records | As long as tax and accounting laws require, usually 7 years |
| Spam-protection records | One hour to one day |
| Google Analytics data | Up to 14 months |
How we protect information
The whole site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Passwords are stored scrambled, card details stay with Stripe, and only we can open the site’s administration area. Each teacher can see only their own classes and students. No website can promise perfect security, but we work to protect your information. If you think you’ve found a security problem, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you by email or with a notice on the site before it takes effect.
